Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
